  Stephen Schlanser

Stephen Schlanser has a diverse and interesting background. His occupations have ranged from racing motorcycles to modeling. He was raised in a community rich in heritage and as a result has a great appreciation for architecture and the arts. He found his interest in glass while working as an apprentice for the renowned German glass artisan Paul von Domarus and later opened his own successful art glass studio in California. . He has since taken the glass medium into unexplored territories.

Each winder case begins by individually handcrafting and transforming heavy sheet glass into the component parts of the case. Both the base and lid members are first hand cut and then highly polished utilizing diamond wheels. The side members of the case are then composed with various etched designs giving each of them their individual flair. Each design is hand drawn, then diamond cut and high pressure sandblasted to produce the decorative etched surface. Only after the sides members have proceeded through these work stages flawlessly, are the polished  bases and lids permanently attached using ultra-violet activated bonding techniques. Upon completion, each piece is individually signed and dated by the artist. Schlanser  has been commissioned to do special projects for the likes of The Coca-Cola Company, Disney, Rockwell and CB Commercial. Recipients of his work include First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis.

The art glass case houses an easily removable drive station fitted with three Swiss-made ironless core drive motors to provide independent operation for each of the three rotating cups. User-programmable microprocessor controls both rotation direction and turns per day (TPD), allowing full optimization for the watch being wound. Power is provided by either "C" cell alkaline batteries or by the supplied  AC/DC adapter. A "low voltage" battery light automatically signals when battery replacement is due.

NEW FOR 2010

This extraordinary chest shown below features handmade crystal corner columns in the Roman style.  The deeply etched filigree and leaf patterns are infused with 24 karat gold and the glass panels are deeply etched with a whimsical floral pattern.  The top lid also has a 24k etched filigree pattern.

This chest is truly a unique design with a limited edition of 100 pieces.  Schlanser also produces another version of this chest for the White House with the Presidential Seal etched on the top lid.  President Obama uses it as a unique gift for high-level foreign dignitaries who visit Washington.

Housed within is an Orbita Rotorwind triple watchwinder fitted with Lithium batteries.  Battery service life of 5 years is guaranteed.  The unique winding action is both quiet and gentle and watches can never be overwound or overstressed.
